Weightlifting is a varsity sport for girls in Florida high
schools. At the 2005 state championship meet, I was
asked to find a sidebar to the main results of the
meet story. Watching the meet then doing interviews
afterward made it clear that girls who grab a barbell
don't want to let go of their femininity.
